Abortion

Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy which results in the removal of the embryo or fetus of the unborn child. This procedure causes much debate among many people that have different opinions about it. I am interested in researching this topic because my friend became pregnant, and was debating whether to keep her baby or have an abortion. I had so much more respect for her once she decided to have her baby. Before her pregnancy, I could have been Pro-Life or Pro-Choice, depending on the specific situation. This is a serious issue many pregnant women do not take seriously enough. Pregnancies become more common while a female is in her early 20's, whether they are planned, unplanned, or accidental. As for myself, I only knew a small amount of information about abortions until I began my research. I think it is safe to say that there are other girls out there like myself that would be interested to know about abortions. If one of my classmates changes their view from Pro-Choice to Pro-Life after reading my essay, I will have achieved my goal. For my research log, I am using a notebook and keeping track of my sources there. I also keep log of how I would get back to that source to look something else up.
I think that the main issue or argument about abortion stems from the fact on when an unborn child actually is considered as an alive, growing, living human being. Human life can be anything that has DNA of a homo sapien. This includes an ovum, zygote, embryo, fetus, and the newborn. The unborn baby's heart begins to beat around the 18th to the 25th day and the brain starts to function as early as 40 days. The baby is without a question a living human being as early as 18 days. The issue is how can a person judge it to be, or not to be, a human life? A baby's existence and chance for a life depends on the mother, and never in modern times has one citizen been given the right to have another killed to solve their own personal problems.
