Wuthering heights

The novel Wuthering Heights written by Emily Bronte in 1847 is the story of two lovers and the tangled webs they weave. Through love triangles, lies, and deception, Wuthering Heights paints the picture of lives of people that have grown together, loved together, and lost together. The novel is set in England circa 1801.
In the beginning of the novel when Mr. Earnshaw brings Heathcliff to Wuthering Heights, he is looked at as very different from the rest of them and is ostracized. Some critics say this expatriated was because he was a gypsy.
Gypsies, or more formally known as Roma, are a group of nomadic people from various locations all over the world. They share a common heritage, which sets them apart from any other ethnic group. The Roma were called gypsies because people believed that they were originally from Egypt, however it has been considered that the gypsies may very well have originated from India and migrated over to Europe (Encarta).
The gypsies believe in their own traditions and not those of the outside world. They strictly believe in not socializing and interacting with those not in their group, such a contact would be wrong and unjust. One thing that the gypsies did happen to adopt was religion. Based on their location, they would assume the religious beliefs of the area and practice it as their own ( Encarta).
Although little is known about the beginnings of the gypsies (Roma), it has been assumed that they seem to have left their homelands in India around the 5th century. However, their most important migration was during the 11th century in India when the Muslims invaded the area. By the 16th century, the gypsies had reached most of the European continent, including Russia, Scandinavia, the British Isles, and Spain (Encarta).
When the Roma, gypsies, settled throughout Europe, they were generally welcomed. Nevertheless, after time, they could not adapt to the customs of the society and this soon isolated them from the public (Encarta).
