Caffeine - Reality

I'm at the end of my journey here at CSDH and through all the courses and topics covered I have never heard one about caffeine. I watched classmates talk about past addictions and experiences with every other drug. Many of these classmates told these stories with a cup of coffee on their desk. Coffee has caffeine in it. Caffeine is a psychoactive drug just like alcohol. I'm not comparing alcoholics to caffeine addicts, but I do believe our caffeine intake needs to be looked at. If you don't know there are negative consequences for doing or using something why would you stop? Why should you stop? My only goal here is to inform you with facts you need to know to make informed decisions about your own caffeine intake. .
             What is Caffeine?.
It's also a biological poison used by plants as a pesticide.
             It's a psychoactive drug.
It's a substance that causes extreme reactions such as heart palpitations, anxiety, panic, insomnia and even birth defects. .
             Have you ever heard this?.
"I can't face the world in the morning, I must have coffee before I can do anything-.
Now substitute the word coffee for the word heroin, cocaine or alcohol. If a person said they couldn't face the world without alcohol, we would call them an addict an encourage them into rehab. But because coffee is a drug we consume ourselves, we nod and say, "Yeah, ain't that the truth-.
             Mistaken Beliefs About Caffeine.
             Caffeine Gives You Energy.
Wrong. Caffeine does not provide energy only chemical stimulation. The perceived energy comes from the body struggle to adapt to increased blood levels of stress hormones. In most cases this induced emergency state leads to well defined side effects. .
             Caffeine Gives You A Lift.
Wrong. Using coffee for mood enhancement is a short term blessing and a long term curse. While the initial adrenal stimulation may provide a "lift,"" caffeine's ultimate mood effect is a letdown, which can lead to depression and chronic fatigue.
