The Outsiders

In The Outsiders, Ponyboy Curtis has to deal with many problems and dilemmas. It begins with Pony and Johnny going to the movie house with Dally. They meet a girl named Cherry Valence, a local soc. She respects Pony, but knows she can't ever be friends with him since he is a greaser. After getting to know each other and being friendly, Cherry's boyfriend, Bob, rolls up and threatens Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally that if they are ever seen with Cherry they will regret it. Bob also beats Johnny up in first part of the story, making Johnny fear him very much. Pony and Johnny fall asleep in the lot by Ponyboy's house after the movie. When Pony tries to go home at two in the morning his brother Darry gets angry and hits him. This is when the trouble begins. Ponyboy goes and gets Johnny and they run to the park to help Ponyboy cool down from the event which just happened. Well just when things couldn't get worse, 5 socs come up and start taunting Ponyboy and Johnny, calling them white trash and what not. The socs start beating them up as the greasers are outnumbered. One of them tries to drown Pony in a fountain when Johnny remembers his blade in his pocket. Johnny grabs it and stabs the soc. .
Ponyboy wakes up, coughing water and breathing heavily. He looks over and sees a pool of blood spreading from the soc lying on the ground he was dead. The two boys rush to a party where their friend Dally is. They tell him what happened and he gives them money to go up to a town where the cops wont find them for a while. They go there and lay low in an abandoned church for almost two weeks until Dallas comes to check on them. He tells them that the cops believe they left and went to Texas. He also informs them that there will be a rumble between the all the socs and all the greasers in Southwest New York. Cherry would also act as a spy and report to the greasers what the socs were planning because the whole mess was her fault.
