First Short Essay

A Bar at the Folies Bergere was painted by Edouard Manet. This was submitted to the salon in 1882 with out having it to go through all the trouble with the usual approval of the jury. It was a confusing piece of art work. It's puzzling but yet, bold and powerful at the same time leaves viewers in dought. He painted this masterpiece while he was gravely ill. The model who posed for him was named Suzon. Her tired and rather bored expression may be largely a result of posing for long hours in Manet's studio. In this puzzling picture the mirror behind the barmaid was view faced on, yet her reflection was off to the right. Also unsettling the top- hatted gentlemen speaking to the barmaid was painted disproportionately large. By logic if a person was father away from the mirror, they should appear to be smaller. Looking at the mirror in the picture it seemed as though the mirror had a life of it's own. This was Manet's goa, he wanted people to see how he used reality of light and colour. .
Another piece of Art that had interesting points of view was painted by Renoir, called The Loge in 1874. This masterpiece was modeled by Nini Gueule en Raie which was her nickname. Renoir's brother Edmond posed for the man behind Nini Lopez. Renoir painted this when he was thirty-three years old. This painting was one of the first Imperssionist shown in the exhibitions of 1874. In the painting Renoir's brother seemed to be preoccupied with the opera-glasses and wearing an evening suit that seemed very formal for such an occasion. Nini also looking spectacular, wearing a rightly stripped attire. Renoir painted everything with great detail such as the little petals on the flowers placed on Nini's evening gown. As we look closely and enlarge the painting, those beautiful little flowers turn out too only be blobs of paint that Renoir blended in. Now a days the big oil on canva is hanging on the walls in Courtland Institute Galleries, University of London.
