Women staying home vs. goign to work


One significant change, that was fought for was the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This Act was implemented to connect the effects of discrimination on female and minority workers. This and other resulting changes serve as a turning point in history for American society.
             As a woman studying business at a prestigious college, I often overlook how fortunate I am to be able to be educated and to have the opportunity to work in a corporate company. This opportunity was unimaginable just a century earlier. American societies held women inferior to men in many aspects such as their roles in marriage, suffrage issues, and work force participation. However after all struggle has been overcome, according to national Ms. Magazine News, there is more unemployment for woman than there was ever before. Studies show, "More than 3.8 million women - 5.6 percent - are currently unemployed in the United States."" Women are starting to reach the high unemployment rate that men face. .
             After much investigation by statisticians and poll representatives, the number of women in the workforce negatively correlates with the increase of birth rates. This depicting the major affect of women withdrawing from the workforce is due to women's desire to channel their ambitions to their family rather than into a job: .
             In 1990, for the first time since 1948, the number of women in the workforce dropped. Also in 1990, the birth rate rose 10.5 percent from 1980. In 1990 the Roper Organization found that for the first time since 1980, the majority of women polled - 51 percent - said they preferred to stay home. .
             As I further complete my paper, these statistics are frightening to me. They compel me refer back to my analysis question, are women going backwards? After being faced with this question, I decided to look into discovering why women were so motivated and full of determination in the past.
