Eradicating poverty should be a main focus of the U.N. because it will recover the health and well being of the people. Deaths from malnutrition will decrease. Often, people do not make enough money to support their families and provide them with adequate nourishment, housing, cleanliness, and healthcare. At least 12 million children under five die from poverty-related diseases every year ("Facts-). About one and a half billion do not have clean water or basic sanitation ("Facts-). If poverty decreased, more money would be available for families so that they could obtain the basic necessities of life. "All of them [illnesses associated with poverty] are associated with the lack of income, clean water and sanitation, food, and access to medical services and education which characterize poor countries and communities- (qtd in "Dying- 22). Every person deserves the right to human dignity and when they are not receiving enough food and money to live a healthy life these basic needs are not being met. Poverty is typically identified as an important condition that has a direct correlation with the risk of becoming sick and dying from well-identified causes (Lozano). It is commonly known that poverty causes poor health. For example, in Africa, the extent of the health problem is exacerbated because many countries lack the resources and infrastructure to manage the economic and health systems needed to control many diseases ("Health-). Therefore, without some outside support and more financial resources these innocent people will continue to suffer. The conditions in which these people live in are inhumane and, therefore, need to be resolved. Poor families are less likely to have nutritionally adequate diets than non-poor families. Children who have inadequate diets lag in growth and development and have more frequent, more severe, and longer-lasting infectious diseases. Children and adults all around the world suffer from lack of basic necessities for life.
