His theory for inventing the guillotine was for the pain to be quick and not have the citizens suffer. It was so quick that it could cut off a head in 2/100 of a second. It was also said that when the head of a person was chopped off, it could take up to fifth-teen minutes before the victim would loose its hearing and eyesight.
