The Beach

This summer, on a hot and cloudless Saturday afternoon, my friend Jamie and I decided to head to the beach for a day of fun in the sun. .
Jamie rolled up to my house in her little black Contour around two or so. We both had our bikinis on and were as shiny as showroom cars from the sunscreen on our skin. I got in her car. She rolled down the windows and cranked up the volume to the music as she backed out of my driveway to head towards Galveston.
We arrived at the seawall and parallel parked at the only empty spot in sight. We got our towels and headed down to the open sandy shore.
The wind was smooth and the sky called out for us to lay under it. We placed our towels on the ground and opened them up to reveal a rather large rectangle that fit perfectly to the lengths of our bodies. Sitting down, we rubbed another layer of sunscreen on and laid down making sure not to let our hair touch the sand. .
After a couple hours of flipping every fifteen minutes, I felt my body heat rising along with the temperature. I slowly arose and rushed towards the copper-like ocean. I didn't stop at the shoreline. I jogged in the water until I reached waist height and stopped. For a moment I let the cool currents flow swiftly across my body while letting the waves splash down and hit across my face. I sank myself into the metallically cool water and let the force exerted from the waves combined with the currents fill my spirits.
Nearby I could see strange fish flying and then flopping into the choppy water. Out in the distance, I squinted my eyes trying to view the massive number of shrimp boats making their daily rounds towards the right. More westward an oilrig stood independently. Turning around facing back to the shore, parents sat under big, purple rental umbrellas watching their children dig with little fluorescent plastic shovels and unwanted Tupperware in the sand. .
Seagulls glided above the shore trying to find fast food.
