Philosophy For Life

because your thoughts become your words.

because your words become your actions.

because your actions become your habits.
             Keep your habits positive .
because your habits become your values.
             Keep your values positive.
because your values become your DESTINY.
             ~Mahatma Gandhi.
According to the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, a true positive outlook on life stemming from one's innermost thoughts ultimately results in positive values. Accordingly, since values are what determine one's destiny, one will have a positive destiny. .
One can debate what determines one's destiny forever, but Gandhi raises a very interesting and perceptive message. We all realize that life is not simple and what we see is not necessarily the reality of a situation. We often look at people who seem to have every advantage in life, yet they are truly unhappy. Take the lives of Whitney Houston, Sean "Puffy" Combs, and Drew Barrymore. They all became the famous actors they so much wanted to be, yet their personal lives are a misery and they have turned to alcohol and drugs to give them happiness and solace. Clearly, they missed the initial step in Gandhi's philosophy of positive thoughts.
Let us take the example of an eighth grader applies to two different high schools but only gets accepted to his second choice. There are two different approaches he can take. He can enter high school with a negative attitude always telling himself that this is not where he belongs. This negative attitude then begins to affect his words and actions. His good study habits that he had in elementary school begin to slip and his grades fall fast. He does not get the chance to apply to a good college and therefore his destiny is rocked because of negative thoughts he had when he first received his high school acceptance.
The approach Gandhi would have told him to take would be to enter high school with a positive attitude. He must make the best out of his situation and his new environment.
