Consumers

Everyone likes big cars, lots a food, and all kinds of materialistic objects. If people have the money to buy these things, then buy them. People's success should not cause others to suffer in the future because of the problem with surplus. In "America's Problems with success," Antonio Cornejo writes that "bigger is better." There is no need to harm the earth, but people should not have to change the way they shop or drive.
There are good and bad traits on buying in quantity. People shop in quantity to save money. Places like Costco might make people think that there are buying more than they need, and some cases it does happen. It's a problem when people don't shop conservative, and buy a lot when they don't need to. Which is different with people who don't make a lot of money, and they can buy and shop less. Costco is a great place to shop. Cornejo states that, "with all the money that is saved, consumers are more likely to spend it on more useless and environmentally taxing products." NOT true! When people live on their own, money will most likely be put extras into a gas tank or a savings account. When there isn't money to spend, money isn't spent. Costco gives the best prices on the food that grocery stores wouldn't offer for a lot cheaper.
One thing that is really disturbing is how products are being wrapped and packed and not recycled. There is no need for a variety pack to have a box, then plastic wrap, and then each product inside individually wrapped. Costco should talk to their distributors, and let them know if they are going to make these gigantic food items to conserve on the packaging. This is one thing that isn't helping the earth. People need to start using their heads and recycle these wrappers. Everything that is recycled counts. Even the smallest little plastic wrapper makes a difference. They add up. All these consumers need to start recycling their products. Cornejo states that, "recycling and other technologies advantages by the government will only take us so far.
