THE ANCIENT GREEK WORSHIP


             One of the most important ancient faiths, characterized by its great impact in the western civilizations is the Ancient Greek Worship. It was a religion based in cults and beliefs oriented toward the adoration of deities and supernatural forces, which allowed the individuals to create a deep and transcendental nexus with the universe and all its components. It was a cultural manifestation passed to the new generations, throughout myths, art and literature. (Burket). .
             It was a polytheistic religion distinguished by the adoration of multiple gods and goddesses. Deities who represented different aspects of life such as love and war; and another aspects of nature, such as the idolatry of the sun, the sea, the sky and the fire. For instance, there was a special respect for Earth, also called the "Great mother". Under these beliefs, these deities were immortal and possessed superhuman powers. (Fonterose).
             The flowering period of the Greek Civilization was between the 8th century B.C.E. and the 2nd century B.C.E. This was a stage characterized by its advances in arts, architecture, philosophy, politics and literature. Then, Homero and other philosophers began to be recognized for their mythical writings. "The Odyssey" and "The Iliad", were masterpieces created by Homero, which represented -more than magical novels- a real testimony about a specific memento in the history of the Greek civilization (Graf). These are compilations of myths, which narrate the origins and nature of the universe, the gods and the humanity. These are myths that affirm to reveal historical facts or describe psychological truths. They are also in charge of developing moral, physical or ontological matters (be or not to be). (Burket).
             In this way, the myths explained the creation of the universe and the participation of god and goddesses in it. As a matter of fact, Greeks created their own theory about the origin of life, cosmos, and the universe (This is a manifestation of the anthropomorphic principle, which gives human characteristics to unanimated objects such as things, plants, etc.
