Not once did the program show the adult figures fighting and arguing in front of their children, a very common trait of television shows of today's age. I also noticed that the families problems wasn't the main stay of the show but the misfortunes of a child (Beaver) . When compared to the Simpson's every thing is quite different. On the other hand the Simpson's was a perfect example of the middle income dysfunctional family. A home full of misfits and delinquents Homer Simpson the father is an unsuccessful plant worker, the wife Marge Simpson is the home maker, who's never happy, Bart Simpson the model for delinquent children, the genius sister Lisa Simpson who struggles in the dysfunctional atmosphere, and baby sister Lisa a trouble causing child. This is a television show were the house has no order kids are misbehaved and the focus lies on the humor a family of this nature can have for the viewer. I noticed that the main stay of humor was Beaver in Leave It to Beaver, the not so fortunate son who manages to blow everything out of proportion. This seemed to be the mindset of the sixty's that the only problem that family's had were those of mischievous children. While when compared to the concepts provided by the Simpson's its very evident that the main stay of humor lies in the moronic father and the dysfunction's of his family. For example in the Leave It to Beaver episode , "The Club house" Beaver decides to make a clubhouse for the summer, as luck turns it Beaver ruins the tree house along with the tree making Beaver to devise a series of lies to convince his dad that it wasn't his fault. While during the Simpson's Bart and friends also decided to renovate Bart's existing tree house. While working Bart breaks his arm falling from the tree house, and the humor lies not in the failure of the house but the misfortune of Bart's broken arm. After watching shows such as these its quite evident that the times have changed and the humor doesn't lie in what was funny for past generations.
