Frost is a strong advocate for individualism. Included is his theme of finalities beside the grave. Frosts poems are filled with many references of death, with those who accept or resist it. He ponders the lot of individual man, he stresses the human being as an entity. One among many, many yet remains, single and alone, with his fate. Life holds the possibility of terror and the potential of beauty. Frost uses the basic theme of mans life, the individual's relationship to himself, to his fellow man, to his world, and to his God. .
             Frost uses himself and the people around him to inspire his characters. In the poem " Road Not Taken," Frost wrote the poem as a satire of his friend Edward Thomas. Frost was amused by Thomas" indecisevness, by the way he would dither over decisions, unable to make up his mind. So the choice of two paths is more of a reference to his friend. In "Birches," the boy swinging from the birch tree" represents Robert Frost. In "The Oven Bird," the bird was inspired by his teacher from childhood. In the poem a family buried their son. The dead son was from Frosts life, because his son died.
             Robert Frost takes his life, the world, and people around him and those he admires as influences. Frost writes of his experiences and life. Frost writes about familiar experiences. He uses his beliefs, which often reflect other people's beliefs. Frost confined himself by choice largely to things "rustic," he knew the northeast so he used it in much of his work.
