Advertising essay

The general mood of the image is that a person who is wearing these shoes is able to reach heights that a person wearing other shoes would not be able to. The image itself is bold, thrilling and rugged. .
             There is text in the ad, it is located at the top and in the bottom right corner. The text in the bottom right is the logo for the shoes; the text at the top is all in capitals and is arranged closely together in a large type. It decreases in size as it goes away and into the page.
             The magazine ad targets mainly teenagers and males up into their late 30's. It could be aimed towards the more outgoing men and those whose interests include being outside a lot, and also to those interested in fashion. The geometric lines in the image make the ad seem precise, the colors that are used make the ad seem relaxed in one sense but in another the brightness of the shoes add an exciting aspect to it. .
             The writing in the ad "Madden Men in New York" is telling the viewer that Steve Madden shoes are basically the "best of the best". New York is looked upon as the main place for fashion in the United States, and Madden shoes are the shoe to be seen in. The writing and the ad support each other in the way that the man in the ad is climbing a building which we now can see is New York by reading the writing from the ad. From this we can now say that the ad targets those men who want to be depicted as being better than others around them, they want to give a good image of themselves and want to do it through fashion. .
             The relationship between the audience targeted for the magazine and the audience targeted for the ad are that the ad is in a well-known men's magazine. Maxim is looked on as one of the more respectable men's magazines so those who read it would be able to relate to the ad. This magazine is also read mostly by younger adults. I think the producer of this advert wants us to believe that if we buy these shoes we can become a bigger and better person who is able to accomplish more than we could before.
