Secondary Education

What do you plan on doing after high school? Everybody has been asked this question but most students don't know how to respond, so an "I don't know" just comes out. Time after time I have wonder this very thing during classes, what to do, what to be, those are the questions that come up. Then one day it just hit me, a high school teacher, I have always respected and admired them for their job devotion and caring towards the student. Also, the impact the a teacher can make in a student will last a lifetime, and an impression is always something that I have wanted to make in people. .
To be a successful teacher, requires you to have many important skills which include the following: listening, good public speaking, reading comprehension, and a variety of learning strategies. Speaking is the glue that holds teaching altogether. While speaking to a class, you have to relay the information in a way they will understand. You are someone who has a college way of thinking, but for students to comprehend what you are saying, you have to bring yourself to their level of thinking. This doesn't mean as much to a high school teacher as it would to an elementary teacher. The use of a variety of learning strategies to teach children is a must. Different approaches to teaching a subject help it sink in better. Every teacher needs a unique teaching style. Reading comprehension is a very important skill of teaching. When reading, you have to be able to understand what is written on a students paper, almost decoding it sometimes. Good listening skills is just common sense when it comes to teaching. If a students asks or answers a question, you need to listen to what they are saying, if you don't then you just aren't good teacher. These skills aren't the only requirements, but are some important ones. A teacher must also have more personable traits, such as: patience, friendliness, and a open mind to the student.
