The setting of this book is an island off the coast of England called Indian Island. This is where the mysterious letters invited people to go for a visit. The main character in the book is Mr. Justice Wargrave. He was lately retired from the bench. When he went to the island he was the one who everyone looked up to for support. He was the one who you could turn to if you needed a favor. Mr. Wargrave was also the one person who calmed everyone down after another murder had taken place. He seemed to be the smartest of the bunch, and was the only one who really looked at the clues closely and put the murders all together. The way he died was that he shot himself in the head. But at the end of the book we find out that he is the murderer.
The second main character in the book is Dr. Edward. Armstrong. He could be called Mr. Justice Wargrave's partner in crime. Both of them blamed everyone else for the crimes. This was so nobody would suspect them of doing it. He really didn't know what was happening most of the time. He was the one who carried out the rest of the murders after Mr. Justice Wargrave committed suicide. In the end Armstrong just disappeared and nobody knows what happened to him.
The last main character in the novel is Vera Claythorne. She was one of the brightest of the bunch on the island. She knew what was up before it even happened. She was also the LAST person to die. She was holding the last Indian figure before it fell and broke on the floor. After that Vera went into a weird trance and hung herself with a noose that had been set up before hand.
