John Steele Gordon the writer of the article When our Ancestors became Us? explains the impact of the Industrial Revolution that change the old days? America. Rail road, good interior lighting, running water and central heating turned peoples ordinary lives upside down in a single generation.
Before the 1820 America was a little agricultural place to live. Where like Philip Hone, mayor of New York City once said, The good old days were heavy post coaches and speed at the rate of six miles an hour!? what he was trying to say was that even though theold days seem to be slow by the lack of technology. When the railroads trains were introduced to America everyone was astonished it brought not only a great increase in personal mobility but also an equally vast increase in freight traffic. New comforts for homes were also developing. The cool stove was presented therefore cooking was easier. It was time to say good by to cooking done largely on ones knees and the need for constant adjustment.
As Americans started getting wealthier and now everyone seem to get richer the middle class had wealth that the rich did not know of. But they knew it was thanks to the Industrial Revolution this wave of richness was taking over America. In 1828 New York's population was 185,000 and in 1845 it double to 371,000. Most of the population had turn rich or were calledcomfortably fixed?.
In conclusion, the Industrial Revolution accelerated the rate of technological innovation. The good old days? were replaced in the developed areas of the country but it seem that the good old days were more appealing compare with the age of chaos? our ancestor hated.
