international terrorism

On September the eleventh, two hijacked airplanes crashed into the twintowers of the famous American World Trade Center. The result was the collapse of both towers, burring thousands of people beneath them, including the terrorists. Buildings near to the WTC were destroyed as well. It is said to be the worst act of terrorism in the United States since the Second World War. However, this was only a part of a large-scale operation: another plane plunged into the west side of the Pentagon, destroying a main part of it, while a third hijacked airplane crashed near Pittsburgh. It is believed that the third plane was heading for Camp David, but it went down while some passengers tried to regain power over it. Recently, some cases of Anthrax in the USA have become public. Yet it is not clear if there is a connection. The United States blame Osama bin Laden for these attacks, but so far, no group or leader admitted this act of terrorism. But the fact, that there was a connection between Osama bin Laden and the terrorists, seems to confirm this theory. But the information, relieved over the terrorist is rather poor. Even though America claims to be in possession of clear evidences, it is not willing to make them public. .
There are different reasons why this attack stroke the United States so hard: first of all because of the thousands of innocent victims and secondly because it showed, how easily and "effectively- such acts of terrorism can be launched. It made the Americans aware how vulnerable their powerful nation is. The attacks were a strike against the western world, maybe even against capitalism. America's foreign policy concerning Israel and Palestine is said to be one of the main reasons. It can't be denied that these attacks met their goals down the line. The terrorist destroyed two of America's most famous symbols, known all around the world: the Pentagon as a symbol of inner security and military power, and the World Trade Center as a symbol of successful economy.
