Sergio Pistoi makes a brilliant point by establishing the advantages of genetic testing by giving us an example of a woman who's cardiac disease could not be detected with EKG's, but only through genetic testing. In the past 30 years, we have learned as much about genetics to come to the breaking point of finding cures for cancers, preventative medicines, and regiments that will not only increase our life spans, but also deliver a plethora of information for us to live healthy lives. We have even narrowed genes down to psychological conditions such as addictiveness. The key I believe that led scientists to the door of gene testing was their curiosity in identical twins. With the exact genetic make-up of each other, it was easy to see that some diseases had to have been handed down from our parents. Siergio Pistoi does. However, take a look at both sides to new and very rare genetic testing such as predictive tests. He shines light upon the fact that yet we may know that the disease is probable, we may not have a cure and that the information would lead to "undue anxiety." A patient may lead a healthier life, and in the event that stress is a major factor in the disease itself, actually alleviate some of the factors of the disease itself.
