Biotechnology in Our World

Cloning is making a genetically identical organism from one organism. Some cloning occurs naturally in some ways, but not in ways that most people think about cloning, such as identical twins. Cloning is a controversial process that has many people's minds spinning. Some of the good things about cloning includes the face that it is a much less destructive way of getting the medicine we are currently getting from animals by killing them. We can also keep the worlds wondrous animals from dying out by cloning them to start a whole new generation of that animal. Also, children can have a clone made of them so they can receive an organ transplant. It also provides a way for couples that are incapable of having children to clone a child they had that had died. There are some downsides to the process though. Cloning remains a very expensive procedure and isn't natural in most cases. It can also cause some confusion and just adds to the population problem. This technology is probably the most highly debated of all the biotechnological advances. .
             Reproduction Processes.
Biotechnology plays a very important role in reproduction in today's world. People are affected by it every day in ways they hadn't dreamt imaginable. Such processes include: amniocentesis, the freezing of human sperm and eggs, and DNA fingerprinting. If there is a great possibility that a fetus has a genetic disease, a doctor will take a small amount of the amniotic fluid and use the chromosomes to determine if there are any problems with the unborn child. Also, human sperm and egg can be frozen for use at a later time by the donors or other people wishing to use them. DNA fingerprinting can be used to identify the parents of children. This happens in many cases when the mother is unsure of the father of her baby. Both the baby and the potential father are then tested and can tell if the baby is his. The pluses for this is that genetic disease can be found early on and can be treated, if possible, to prevent the unborn child from being deformed.
