Blanche: I don't want realism .I don't tell truth, I tell w

She created for example the illusions of her life in Laurel, as her being a "refined- and well respected woman, when she was in fact nothing but a harlot and finally thrown out due to her promiscuous behaviour. Blanche does not like to admit to this side of her and prefers to give people a completely different impression by lying to them and creating a totally different world in which she would truly like to be a part of. .
Blanche' illusions are so intense to the point that it affects real life. An example is her decorations to Stella's apartment which creates a dim surrounding to help hide her true appearance. Unlike Stella, Blanche is afraid of her reality. She is afraid of getting old which is the reason for her putting covers on the lamps to dim the lights.
"I've bought this adorable little coloured paper lantern .
Put it over the light bulb! Will you, please?-.
She pretends to not notice what she does, when for example standing in the light she is told this and responds: .
             "Oh am I!-;.
it is almost as if in trying to convince .
others of her lies she has convinced herself (or tried to). .
Blanche is afraid of being alone which is why she tries so hard to keep Mitch from finding out about her past. She wants him to know the person she longs to be as opposed to the person she really is.
"Thank you for being so kind! I need kindness now."".
These words suggest some unhappiness in her former life and it is quite likely that due to her past experience of relationships she feels more in need of support at this time but is unable to enter one genuinely. It is also ambiguous as to what kind of kindness she truly wants, which is shown when ending scene six embracing Mitch she says .
             "Sometimes - there's God - so quickly!-,.
             as if anything.
between her and Mitch could not be permanent. Again this enforces Blanche's unstable nature, although she may think she wants a relationship, because of the true person she is it is unlikely this can actually happen.
