Corporate Infulences on Today's Youth, Health Issue or No Issue?.
I am writing about the controversial issue of selling sodas on school campuses. There is a belief that by passing this bill that children will be healthier and not as overweight. They are proposing to replace sodas with fruit-based drinks that are at least half fruit and have no added sweeteners, drinking water, and milk. I agree with this bill, however, I think that there is more to the obesity of children than just sodas.
This topic really interests me because this is about our children and their future. I can remember when I was in high school and they had just closed my school campus. They put their own Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and other fast food stands on campus. They also had the main cafeteria and the student store. I was the manager at the student store and it seemed that all we sold was sodas and candy; there weren't hardly any healthy foods that I can remember. Knowing that these items are being sold to the children and teenagers gives me no doubt that there is obesity in schools. However, my question is, how is this going to prevent children and teenagers from drinking and eating these fatty foods at home? They can drink and eat these foods before and after school. My belief is that people need to focus more on exercise and less video games, television and less fast food.
It is a good idea to replace sodas with fruit-based drinks, milks and water, but there needs to be more emphasis on the foods that they intake and the exercise they partake in. The commercials that are shown on television have a lot of influence on what choice kids" make. There are many advertisements for fast foods, pizza, video games, and many more that has a big affect on these kids. I very rarely see kids on bikes, or playing outside, which makes me sad. I used to ride my bike several times a day, ride my horse, take walks, etc. I personally know how easy it is to stay inside and watch television, or stay on the computer and eat junk foods.
