During this stage the patient may forget simple things like names of people they know or which shoe goes on which foot. The next symptoms are disorientation and wondering. During this stage the patient will tend to lose sense of time and space and will also begin to get lost in familiar surroundings. Another symptom of AD is mood swings. In this stage the patient can go from happy to sad in a drop of a hat. Also a person with AD may experience a change in eating habits and weight. Depression is also a symptom of Alzheimer's. A patient experiencing depression will be characterized by withdrawal, apathy, and crying. Agitation and aggression are two of the latest symptoms. During these stages the patient will be quick tempered and physically abusive. Paranoia may also occur and with paranoia the patient may suspect others of various things like stealing, lying, or murder. Delusions and hallucinations are also common among patients. These symptoms will cause a patient to believe false things and see things that are not really there. One of the last symptoms is loss of speech. The patient will not be able to articulate themselves adequately and will tend to slur on easy words. The last symptom is total incapacitation of death. During this stage the patient will lose many of his or her body functions and will soon after die.
When dealing with Alzheimer's it is important that a patient or potential patient is properly diagnosed with the diseases. The most accurate way to diagnose AD is to perform an autopsy. However the problem with an autopsy is that patients are already died when they are performed. Other than autopsy's there are other methods doctors use to diagnose AD.
