As a senior in high school, I began to feel the need to have my own set of beliefs. I started to think about some of the principles that I believe in. As I examined the list of thoughts I had in my mind all this time, it came to me that they are similar that of a specific political party. It was the Democratic Party. The main reasons I chose to support the Democratic Party are because they fight for better education for everyone, safer communities, and equal opportunities for every American.
First, Democrats strongly support investing more in education. One of their main beliefs is that education is the key to acquiring economic security, developing individual freedom, and restoring community hope. Basically, the democrats think that we should encourage parents to take active roles in their children's education and to assist the schools by teaching through example, supervising homework, attending parent/teacher conferences, encouraging children to read, and providing a good learning environment. They support the idea of providing information to parents to heighten their awareness of their public education options, including bilingual academic programs, magnet schools, immersion schools, and school district charter schools, in order to best accommodate the learning skills of their children. They believe that schools should have fully qualified teachers and every failing school in America should be turned around or shut down and reopened under new leadership. Also, they think that every high school graduate must master reading, math, and other basics. They would like for every eighth grader to be computer literate and they would like to end the achievement gap between students of color and the rest of America's students. .
Second, the Democratic Party supports creating safer communities. We encourage law enforcement professionals and community activists to work together to mitigate crime and to eradicate the root causes of crime.
