Abortion


            
             Ever since the Supreme Court's ruling of Roe v. Wade in 1973, there has been an ongoing battle between the pro-life and pro-choice issue. This ruling declared that it is a woman's private act if she chooses to have an abortion or not, and that the government cannot have such control as to decide if an abortion should be preformed. This procedure is growing more and more popular everyday. If one types the word "abortion" into an Internet search engine, one may find over 337 sites on this case. One typical heading was "Roe v. Wade 25 Years of Celebration for the Right to Choose;" however it is not a celebration for millions of unborn babies-it is a tragedy. Abortion endangers the lives of pro-abortionists, the life of the mother both physically and psychologically, and it also leads many to black market of illegal clinics which not only takes advantage of the governmental system, but also of the poor people who can not go to the legal clinics.
             "What is an Abortion?" a question that concerns many minds of people out there that are not aware of this tragic procedure. Abortion is the removal or expulsion of all or any part of the membranes (placenta) that surround the baby (fetus) in the uterus, with or without the fetus itself, before the fetus is capable of life outside the mother's body (Horvitz 199). Also defined as a surgical procedure to end a pregnancy by removing the fetus and placenta from the uterus, likewise referred to in many ways as: induced abortion; suction curettage; surgical abortion (Adam 1). There are several methods for Abortion to be done, during the procedure, the cervical canal is enlarged (dilated) and a hollow tube is inserted into the uterus. A vacuum (suction) machine is used to remove the tissues (fetus and placenta) from the uterus.
