Today, what we read as Diary of a Young Girl are actually selections from the two versions of Anne Frank's journal, version a and version b. What we read in Diary of Young Girl were edited selections by Anne's father, Otto, who had the book published, as were Anne's wishes. .
When Anne wrote in her journal, she did not escape the harsh realities of her situation, but rather, writing let her be a little more at ease. She knew that by writing her story in that little journal she would get her message out. That her family's story would have an opportunity to be known by others that had never come in contact with her.
