From what I can tell, I am a talented musician. I tend to sit in my room playing my guitar for hours on end. To me my level of skill seems to remain constant. But given by the reaction of my peers, it would seem that I excel at a much higher rate than they do. Strangely enough, no matter how much I practice, or no matter how many songs I learn, I still never seem to be satisfied. I"ll have points in my life were I"ll want to play my guitar but I hesitate. I hesitate because I know what I play wont please me. .
Presently I am in a band. I like the music we play and enjoy the company of my friends. We will sit down and in between goofing off we crank out a song. At that time it seems to be very good music. Maybe it's due to the adrenaline rush of creating something. But as time passes and I hear the song again and again, I pick out little things that bother me, things that could be better. Maybe this is what sets me apart from the other guitarists I"m associated with. .
In my mind I know that I will never be a famous musician like Kirk Hammett or Wes Borland, but the thought is nice. Sometimes I like to think about being on stage with my band and making crowds go wild. The thought of being able to make a whole mass of people move with emotion at the sound of our music is rather exciting. But then I begin to think about the horror stories I see on the news or read about in the paper, and that puts some what of a damper on the glory of it all. Having people constantly recognize you and harass you for things as trivial as an autograph makes me want to be rather antisocial.
