Pollution

Pollution is any substance or form of energy in sufficient concentration to harm living things or the environment. Pollution is created by individuals, communities and by industries that collect and dispose of pollutants improperly. Four types of pollutants are air, water, ground and energy. .
Air pollution can be caused by cigarette smoke, carbon dioxide, automobile exhaust, combustion products from heating, power plants, radioactive particles, improper solid waste disposal, fires and chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's). Polluting the environment is destroying the ozone. The ozone protects us from harmful ultra violet rays and radiation that kills us. Too much air pollution on earth is slowing down the ozone's ability to re-build itself. A solution to minimizing air pollution is to ban CFC's from being made or used and finding other chemicals to replace CFC's. If an air conditioner breaks, the CFC's have to be taken out very carefully and either stored or recycled so they don't leak out into the air. People should stop smoking. Smoking is bad for your health and the smoke pollutes the air. So even if you make a healthy choice by not smoking, u will still be harmed by second hand smoke. Other suggestions are to car pool or use other methods of transportation such as riding a bicycle to cut down on the amount of automobile exhaust that goes into the air. .
The causes of water pollution are running water off of streets or parking lots that have traces of motor oil on them. The water can wash into a storm drain. Farmlands that have fertilizers will pollute the water. Grass lawns that are sprayed with chemicals to kill weeds will pollute the water and also eroded soil will. For example if rivers are used repeatedly for irrigation, the water that passes through the irrigated fields will get polluted. They are polluted because salts that are in the soil get picked up when they flow through the land. When the water flow reaches its destination, there is a very small amount of water left.
