Propaganda & Tv

            Can the existence of propaganda be formed with prime time television? A proposal has been developed by Congress and television networks which would involve a trade for ad time already bought in exchange for anti-drug themes to be incorporated in prime time television shows. With Congress creating a massive financial incentive for TV networks, the government's role in rearranging scripts to promote anti-drug awareness in prime time television, has society questioning their joint decision to air such programs. Having the government control one of society's forms of freedom of choice and speech, individuals and corporations rights would begin to be collapse, while the government begins to set the manipulated agenda of society.
             Without the audience knowing which script has been revised this form of propaganda if the appropriate word for their efforts, could be seen as a form of mind control and brainwashing. The method of slithering in a formal message in particular episodes could lead to just an additional use of political power. If this system gradually becomes to be of use, how would the government prohibit themselves to begin programs that dealt with other social dilemmas such as abortions and the death penalty? .
             Prime time television has become one of society's main outlets of uses and gratifications. If the use of spending money on campaigns of anti-drug use to subliminally influence the public, the whole notion of prime time television would be overpowered. The audience would have to view programs that may not be suitable for their particular needs. Ethically, how would a certain individual feel after viewing a program not knowing that the concept behind the show was filled with concealed messages? Attempting to teach society the harm of drug abuse is a sensible idea, but by manipulating the mind frame of individuals to practice such actions, defeats the whole purpose of our society's belief system.
