How to Make a Dress Shirt


             The first thing you must do that is important in the process of making a shirt is to make or buy the pattern for the shirt. The next step is to gather all the materials. These materials consist of: the material your going to use, scissors, pins, thread, a sewing machine, fusible interfacing, an iron, buttons and a hand needle. Next layout the fabric on a flat surface then layout the pattern according to the directions, Pin the pattern pieces if needed. The pieces should be as following: two fronts and one back other wise known as the bodices, two back yokes, two sleeves, two sleeve plackets, two cuffs, two button extensions, two collar stands , an upper collar and an under collar. Remember to apply the fusible interfacing to the cuffs, upper collar, one of the collar stands and the button hole extensions all on the wrong side of the fabric. Start my sewing the back yoke pieces to the back bodice my sandwiching the pieces, followed by pressing then top stitching. Then the back piece is attached to the front bodices by the shoulder seam and stitched with a reinforcement seam called a flat felled seam. Now spread open the shirt and insert the sleeve by stitching the cap, the round part. The shirt is then folded back in half and the remaining side stitch is joined once again with the flat felled stitch. Finish off the fronts of the shirts with the application of the button extensions and top stitching.
             Now that the preliminary shirt is done we will finish the rest of the shirt. Apply the sleeve plackets to the slit in the opening of the sleeve, then gather the end of the sleeve and apply the sleeve cuffs. To attach the collar sew the upper collar to the under trim the corners and turn inside out press and top stitch. Now place the collar stands upside down and right side together sandwiching the collar between them. Sew the whole length the flip the collar stand out now you can attach it to the shirt.
