Why Violence Should Be Kept On Television

Although some of these ideas may be true many people disagree and believe that these shows should not be taken off the air.
             Violent television shows should be aired because they reflect violence in society. Violence shown on television is just portraying the violence that happens in communities all the time. Violent shows should be shown regularly, so people will be more motivated to reduce violence in their neighborhoods. Instead of trying to do away with violence shown on television, people should be more concerned with trying to do away with violence right in their backyards. Although the violence that is shown on television is portraying violence, most violent acts shown do not condone violence. Most violent shows on television show the pain of violence and attempt to show there are other ways to resolve conflicts (Szaflik). In reality the violence shown on television is showing what happens on an everyday basis in the real world, but the shows are trying to prevent these acts from being acted on by showing the downside to violence.
             The United States is a free country. A person has the write to watch ever they want to watch. If parents disapprove of what their children are watching they should monitor the programs their children watch. Most violent acts shown on television are shown in cartoons and other children programs. There is a new warning device on televison called "television ratings". This device is used to warn people on how graphic a show is going to be before they watch the show. There is also a device called the V-chip that blocks violent shows from being shown in your home. In a study took place on parents who owned a television with the V-chip, 53% were unaware of its presence, while nearly two-thirds of those who were aware did not use it (Los Angeles Times). This goes to show how much parents are aware of things that are going on and how many parents try to prevent there children from watching violent television shows.
