There are three rules that show that the guidelines of medical ethics change over the years. .
The first rule is, "Treat all human life as of equal worth". However this commandment is hard to follow. Since this rule was hard to follow, they revised the rule stating that you should recognize the worth of a human life and understand that the value of the life varies. It gives the doctor the right to reason with ideas such as the self worth of a person who has no vitality and is a vegetable, or the importance of a valuable heart transplant. .
The second rule of old ethics is "Never intentionally take innocent human life". That basically means that if you have an opportunity to save two lives don't just save one try to save both. The problem with this rule was that if the doctor didn't save both lives then he would be labeled as unethical. So later the rule was changed to: "Take responsibility for the consequences of your decisions". Now the physician can make a decision based on his judgment and yet be accountable for his actions. The third rule is "Treat all human life as more precious as any non-human life.
