Art Of War

Upon completing the reading of Art of War, by Sun Tzu, I have formulated some very critical analysis of how this novel fits into the business environment as well as into my own life. The book itself is a compellation of writings by an ancient Chinese warrior, which cover topics dealing with strategy, deceit, motivation, and politics. This book, which dates back beyond 1500 B.C., has been used as a guide by many business people as well as military moguls such as Napoleon Bonaparte. It is viewed by others who have read it as a model for creating tactics, and structure of operations for business and for life. It is viewed in this manner because the subject is so readily applicable to the characteristics that make up the business game. .
Overall this novel was a very involving read. Because the content of the book is about China's ancient past, much of the vernacular is complicating to follow. That is why I found myself reading particular portions more than once, to ensure that I was getting a clear understanding of the messages being portrayed. My initial interest took place while I was reading about Sun Tzu's idea of team playing. Much like business people today, the warriors of ancient China reversed roles based on the benefits in store for them. It has become very common in recent years that the way to progress and seek higher levels of employment is through new job opportunities. For example, very high rates of advertising executives find that the quickest way to climb the corporate ladder is to change teams. I don't personally believe that this is a mantra in which to live by, but I believe that the relationship of the ancient warriors obeying new rule in order to spare their lives and the lives of their family is much like the businessman taking a new higher paying job with a competitor in order to provide himself and his family better opportunity. .
As I progressed through with my reading I actually had a hard time putting this book down.
