Australian Stereotypes

I think Australia is seen to have a very liberal and multicultural society. Everything that contributes to our culture, like food and clothing, is really a mix of other countries cultures. People from almost every different religion and background live here and that shows how accepting and happy we are to have different kinds of people living here. The communities of Australia are seen to be very open and free compared to the communities of people from other countries. We work together to make our country better and the people of our country are (more or less) making the decisions, not just the government.
             Recreation.
A "typical" Aussie bloke would go down to a local pub with some mates and have a couple of beers on his days off. Or maybe go hunting, camping or fishing. But as a family, he might be cooking something on a BBQ, while the wife serves drinks and the kids play a game of cricket in their huge backyard. Surfing is a very obvious recreational thing for teenagers because we are so well known for our beaches. I think it is seen that most teenagers are into alternative type music and really enjoy going to beach parties. Another popular thing is to go to a cricket or footy game. I"m not really sure what people think women do in their spare time, maybe read or gossip with the neighbours.
             Characteristics of People.
The majority of people from around the world, I believe, think that Aussies are friendly, honest, trusting and are generally good people. Australia is a very active country and is very involved with sport, so we a seen to be very energetic and competitive. Because it is seen that all Aussies are very involved and devoted to their family, I think people might see us as a bit old fashioned. Each family member has their own set job as part of the family - The father is the proud one who everyone relies on to be strong and look after and provide for the family. The mother is the carer and looks after the children and talks to them.
