Personal Statement.
I am excited about applying for a position at the LAIP program. I have always .
worked at jobs that involve lots of interaction with people and that involve helping .
others. Before entering law school, I worked for a year at the Internal Revenue Service .
as a customer service representative. I would take calls from taxpayers and would help .
answer questions about their account, help fill out many types of complex forms, .
transfer credits, find and send out refunds, and help answer countless questions that relate .
to tax law. The job involved lots of training before and during the job. The most .
important skill besides knowledge of tax laws was making people feel comfortable over .
the phone and letting them know that I would do whatever it took to answer their .
questions. I believe that I have good empathy skills to relate to others and take my .
responsibilities very seriously once I decide to take on a task. .
If I get accepted into the program, I plan to devote my full energy during the summer .
and all through the rest of my time at law school to devote to the program. I have always .
been interested in criminal law and so far, criminal law has been my favorite class. I .
realize that the actual experience at the program may not relate to what goes on in the .
classroom. However, I feel that I have a good interpersonal skills and a strong .
determination to solve problems that may help in working with clients in the prison .
population. Most importantly, I enjoy working with people and the prospect of working .
on actual cases to help people who cannot help themselves is an exciting challenge that I .
look forward to taking on. .
My strongest asset to the program is my easygoingness and great listening skills .
which I believe would make the clients feel comfortable confiding in me. I also plan to be .
involved in the program for the full duration of my time at law school which would help .
