Outside, the air is crisp; it feels like the purest wind is blowing onto your face. Cigarette in hand, you are smoking one after another, enjoying the cooling sensation as you can taste the menthol in the back of your throat. Other people are outside with you. Some of them you have known for years and others you just met. The odd thing is that you feel an unusual closeness to all of the people you are with, even the ones you don't really know. Everything in the world just seems right to you. After a relaxing cigarette break, you decide to head back inside. You open the door and walk into the dark room. The music is loud and the bass is over powering. A few black lights and glow sticks are dimly lighting the room. Some people in the room are lying down on couches, massaging each other while sucking down whippets. Other people are dancing with menthol inhalers in one hand and glow sticks in the other, while people stare at the neon light as if they were mesmerized by it. No longer are you just hearing the music, but now you can feel it as the electronic beats take over your body and you begin to dance.
Ecstasy: 1. Intense joy or delight. 2. A state of emotion so intense that one is carried beyond rational thought and self-control: an ecstasy of rage. 3. The trance, frenzy, or rapture associated with mystic or prophetic exaltation. 4. MDMA (slang).
Ecstasy is a word that has been around for many years. A context that it would be used in is when trying to describe an incredible feeling and level of happiness. Ten years ago, ecstasy was no more than a word that described a good feeling. Ecstasy now is much more than that. It has evolved not only into the most well known slang term for the drug MDMA, but it has changed what millions of people see as "a night on the town.".
Before 1985, when ecstasy was legal, it was used by psychiatrists as a therapeutic tool and also by some therapist as a medication for marriage disorders.
