Friere

Nor could a student be allowed to think outside the box while the teacher was feeding the students their daily dose of subject matter. On the opposite side of the coin, a teacher was not allowed to spit out fact after countless fact at students who were allowed the freedom to think for themselves because in essence he was prohibiting their intellectual growth. Teachers could not make decisions for the class without first consulting the class, no matter how trivial the task at hand was.
For these reasons, I think Freire was wrong in his ideas. I think that a combination of the two styles is essential for the student to be able to succeed in the real world. Being fed facts is an integral part of learning, but being given the ability to then question what is spit at us makes the experience, and what is actually retained from it, that much better and full of meaning. Decisions should be made with the students input, but the teacher should have the final decision so as to prevent the wrong underlying ideas from being expressed. Allowing freethinking is still essential, but sometimes the thinking should be guided to a certain point that the teacher is trying to express. In essence, liberation of the mind cannot and will not be accomplished through only one style or the other. Both walk hand in hand in the world of education. Without one, the other will not survive.
In grade school, the banking style should be more apparent to the students because it will make the transition of being taught that much easier on their still forming minds. With having no prior knowledge and so much material to learn, students should have more taught to them with less time for questions. But on the same note, there should also be time for them to unwind and let it sink in so as to allow them to understand it and gather the full meaning of what was posed to them. In essence, the teachers should dole out all information they have on one subject, give the students time to digest it, then have the students do an activity of sorts that will require the facts that they learned to be used in order to accomplish it while still having fun.
