Gilgamesh

The social theme that I interpreted from this story was creation. In the very beginning of the story Fynn mentions a plant that he is growing; a plant that will produce a wife to his liking. The vegetable wife plant which he has decided to grow, "has a hardy stock, bypassing the more delicate Vegetable Maiden and Vegetable Bride, selecting a variety noted for it's ability to thrive under any conditions." (628) After reading this passage from the story I started to debate two different ideas. First this story must place where women are not naturally made. Second why would you want to create your wife? I felt like the author wrote this story to denote creation in an sf way. He took creation to the next level. He uses seedlings to make a wife. He first refers to the wife as a seedling and as the seed matures he calls it a plant. Yet the point was creation. For example, at the present time scientists are creating animals but they are coming from the same animal or a different animal. Scientists are just doing the method a different way. Now Murphy has taken creation and used a plant to do it. Only maybe in the future will we be able to do this. Maybe we will be able to create other things as well like a car or house. You will be able to open up a bag of ramon noodles and instead of it becoming a soup after heating it, it will become a car. These several stories that I now have read have shown me how only sf can take a topic and dramatize it.
