Domestic Violence

Social isolation and emotional abuse can have long-lasting effects. The types of violence are defined as follows:.
Physical abuse, which includes any attempt or actual use of physical force, with the intent to injure, control, hurt or causes the victim to be afraid of the abusive partner. For instance punching, kicking, choking, shoving, cutting or any use of a weapon.
Sexual abuse refers to any unwanted or pressured sexual act, including unwanted kissing or touching, being made or coerced to engage in any sexual activity which may be hurtful, demeaning, or unpleasant, or being forced or manipulated into viewing pornographic material.
Emotional/verbal abuse that results in behaviour intended to, or has the effect of reducing the victims self esteem by constant putdowns, belittling, threatening and humiliating the victim.
Social abuse can be defined as the deliberate isolation, preventing the victim from leaving the home, disconnecting or controlling the victim's use of the phone, making the victim constantly account for their whereabouts.
And financial abuse, which may consist of taking control over the victim's financial means, to reduce her autonomy or power by not giving you enough money to survive on,.
Victims of domestic abuse often experience a range of difficulties as a result of the abuse. Even after leaving a violent relationship, a victim may continue to experience a range of problems as a result of the abuse. Further, leaving an abusive partner doesn't guarantee that the abuse will stop, as many abusive partners continue the abuse and attempt other ways to control their partner. One battering episode builds on past episodes and sets the stage for future episodes. All incidents have a profound effect on the victim and may result in a range of consequences, either physically injurious or psychologically damaging. Without intervention, the pattern of assaultive behaviours often escalates in both frequency and severity.
