Language Skill And Job Market

She said that even their language is commodified. Now the Francophone are those people who speak French as their native language and also speak English which is their second language. They do the job of receiving phone calls from various French speaking customers not just from Canada but from any other place around the globe which has business affiliates with those Canadian companies. Where as on the other hand the Anglophones are those who just speak English when at work and doing the same tasks that Francophones do. Thus, in the present case scenario where globalization has taken place in almost every developed industrialized nation, in Canada too, these Francophones have gained much more importance over the Anglophones in due course of time.
The situation of these Francophones was not the same in the past, until 1980 when Canada shifted from industrialized nation to a more service sector economy with more communications technology spreading all over the country. In the past, these Francophones used to work as labors in those industries, where they were treated like slaves and were disrespected and given minimum wages. The Anglophones were given all the service sector jobs with a high pay scale and all the benefits. Then what has made this situation so different in present times where the same old Francophones who have the skills of two languages are getting more pay than the Anglophones and also enjoy the same benefits that the Anglophones used to enjoy once upon a time? .
The answer is simple. When Canadian economy shifted to a service sector and increased ties with other multi-nationals, they realized the importance of employees who could interact with their customers in as many different languages as possible for the wage of just one. Here is when all these corporations thought with their profit-making and shrewd corporate mentality, and provided open job offers for these Francophones over the Anglophones.
