Orbiting The Son

Orbiting the Son is an in depth look at Greens experience with parenthood. The writer explains how Erez, his adopted son, had, at a tender age of fourteen months, created his own family. Although the writer and Andy, his husband, were the parents Erez had found for himself other people who learned to care and love him like real family members would. From childless men and women to aged people who had no one to care for or care for them, Erez found an aunt, uncle or grandparent in these people. The fussed and pampered over Erez as would a real parent. So, gradually Erez seemed to become the pivotal factor that brought all these people together. As Green saw it, because the people shared a common love and adoration for Erez they all became a family. Green explains that children in traditional families do not have the fortune of adopting a family of their own like Erez could. Erez was always surrounded by people who loved him and traditional families don't always guarantee this to a child. All of this is solely because the binding force in an unconventional family is the child. However, I do not agree with the writer's viewpoint. In my opinion, in all family types a child will always be surrounded by parents and family members that love and cherish it. .
After taking a look into my own family one can clearly see that after the birth of a child in a family the lifestyle in that household changes to make the child the center of all affairs. For example, I saw a drastic change in cousin brother's lifestyle and priorities after he became a father. To begin with, he stopped going for his weekly card game night. To him it just did not seem appealing enough. When one asked why he simply said, "I don't know how it would help the baby!" Moreover, one also noticed that the people he socialized with had changed. This is a very natural process. After all, only a person who could match the parents" enthusiasm about the child would enjoy their company.
