Our United States Congress People

Of the United States Congress, a handful were elected from Michigan to represent our views. Two of them are senators, Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin. Both of Michigan's members of United States Congress belong to the Democratic Party. The U.S. representative that affects me the most is Mike Rogers, of the 8th district. Mike Rogers is part of the Republican Party. All three of these members of Congress work in the government to represent the people.
Carl Levin is a very well known politician in Michigan. Currently, his popularity rating is high, with 56 percent of the population holding a positive view towards him, and 19 percent with a negative view. He is currently serving his fifth term as United States Senator. This could be for a number of reasons. First of all, he has a very good history. He was born in 1934 in Detroit, and went on to go to Central High School there. He then graduated from Swarthmore College with honors, and continued to Harvard Law School, where he graduated from in 1959. After graduating, he practiced law in Michigan while also teaching. In 1964 he moved up to being appointed as an assistant attorney general of Michigan, and the first general counsel for the Michigan Civil Rights Commission. He continued to move up and be elected to the Detroit City Council in 1969, and then became its president with the most votes ever won in the city. He first reached his position as United States Senator in 1978, where he has remained until today.
On a more personal level, Carl Levin is also a married man and a father. He married his wife, Barbara Halpern in 1961. They have had three daughters- Kate, Laura, and Erica, and he also has three grandchildren. Levin is Jewish. The political genes may run in the family; His brother Sander has been in the United States House of Representatives since 1983.
Whether Levin's popularity is because of his background or because of his achievements is unsure.
