Feminism

Throughout history, women have been denied many privileges (such as voting) and have worked hard towards equally, though never fully achieved. Even though women have come as far as they have today, feminism is still very much felt in literature. .
The first example comes from the story, "Lust," by Susan Minot. The main character of the story is a girl with no name. First off, this shows a character with a lost identity, because "she" is very generalized. Some readers would believe this is true because she indirectly said her life revolved around men; an example is on pg. 294, "On weekends they .has started it all." The way the men seem to be the controlling factor is what makes her seem like the weak one, who always gives in and feels like she has to please the man (pg.293, "I thought the worst .something else entirely.").
Secondly, the way that sexually active men are looked at as heroes while the women are looked at as sluts. It is all said and perfectly put on page 294:.
"The more girl a guy has, the better. He has a bright look, having .
reaped fruits, blooming. He stacks around, sure-shouldered and.
you've got the feeling he's got more in him, a fatter heart, more.
stories to tell. For a girl, with each boy, it's as though a petal .
             gets plucked each time.".
Though she makes her own choices, she just can't say no. Her true feelings are revealed on page 296, "You begin to feel like a piece of pounded veal." This only proves more that she is weak, against men. The feminist reader doesn't look at her as promiscuous, but as a victim.
The second story is called, "Love in L.A.," by Dagoberto Gilb. While this young man is driving in traffic, he's not paying attention; he rear ends someone. It happens to be a young girl. Not only does he irresponsibly try to get out of the accident and not call the insurance company, but he tries to charm the girl and asks for her phone number on a personal level.
