Reading - Not Just an Assignment

Reading - Not Just an Assignment .
For any reader, a good book grants a pleasure-sought escape from the every day, monotonous world in which we live. Each and every person should experience this well-deserved break from a physically and emotionally hectic life. With each new book, readers transport themselves to a world where they have no responsibilities; they are completely free to relax and not think about that "to-do" list posted on the refrigerator. In the world of fiction, readers are able to choose where they visit and how long they want to stay there. With reading, there are no limits as to how far and long readers go. Reading permits the mind time to relax and escape the stressful world; at the same time reading teaches about the world and broadens the mind's knowledge.
Pleasure-reading allows an escape from real life. It grants readers an opportunity to break away from the humdrum aspects of reality and be transported to another world. The only boundaries to the worlds they choose to visit are in their imagination. Books can dispatch readers to lands far away, either in time or space. The time readers choose to visit can be in the future, the past, or the present. Authors have written about every country in the world, and places that are far away from the planet we currently live on. Readers need only to pick up a book that catches their eye, and begin reading.
In addition to readers being able to leave their own little corner of the world whenever they want to, reading also enhances learning. This learning applies to every book, no matter what the title. By reading a variety of books, readers are exposing themselves to literature written by diverse societies; thus they are learning about that particular society's thoughts, beliefs and customs. Not only can reading expose a person to different societies, it can also teach them anything they wish to learn. Whether it is studying the history of the world, calculating the distance to the next country, exploring the physiology of human beings, playing an instrument, or whatever else is chosen, readers can learn anything they want through a book.
