             Each day, following state law, many teachers around the US lead students in a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. The specific law states that public schools begin each school day with "appropriate patriotic exercises" and that the Pledge would be sufficient to comply. The specific school policy states that "Each elementary school class [shall] recite the pledge of allegiance to the flag once each day." .
             However, when taken to court a case of the state of California it was found that a similar case to this one was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette (although it should be noted that Barnette was decided in 1943 and the words "under God" were not added until 1954). .
             How clear is it if the Pledge to Allegiance is about God or about the Nations principals and constitution? To this date the battle continues and the only real fact is that no matter what the Supreme Court decides everyone will not be happy. What is good for some is not always good for others.
             Perhaps, this issue has been one of such importance in which no matter what the Supreme Court decides all politicians have united to stand up and defend the Pledge of the nation, and just after the first ruling in favor of the student's constitutional rights; the US Senate had voted unanimously to condemn the decision and the President of the United States was reported to have deemed it "ridiculous." Meanwhile members of the House assembled on the steps of the Capitol Building to recite the Pledge defiantly in masse.(Charles Henderson) .
             This effectively set the stage for considering whether or not the Pledge has enough of a religious component to prevent the State from endorsing it or leading children in recitation of it. Although being affected is one component of standing, another is harm, which could not demonstrate.
             Many people who object to the decision base their argument on the idea that there is no harm done because the students are not compelled to recite the Pledge.
