Carmen screams to her brother when asking how long they have been falling for. Juni simply answers by telling her that he doesn't know, because his watch doesn't tell time. This is an example of deadpan because it is an impassive response, and it increases the humor of the situation at hand. The two are falling and don't know what awaits them, and Juni just calmly states that his watch doesn't tell time. Spy Kids 2 incorporates many characteristics of comedy.

Carmine and Juni are assigned to find the transfuncter device, which belongs to the president but was stolen. The two are told that the device is believed to be somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle. Their boss goes on to tell them the legend of the island of lost dreams. It doesn't exist on any map, but many people say they have been there after traveling to the area, coming back deranged and talking of monsters. This is an example of the characteristic of source because a large part of the movie takes place on the island, which is primarily based on legend. Another horror characteristic exhibited in the film was the theme of creator losing control of creation. On the island there is a mad scientist who genetically engineered animals to be so small that they could fit in the palm of your hand.
