Ski Trip

When we were finished the last two families arrived simultaneously, turns out they had met on the way. We all sat down talking and waiting for them to finish eating. The time was getting on and it was about 10 o'clock when we retreated to our rooms. We all agreed on an early start and went to bed.
The next morning people slowly came down to breakfast. The children, including me, came last all looking like we had been hit by a herd of stampeding elephants. After eating we repacked the cars as our parents paid for the night. We had agreed to take this last stretch driving as a convoy. This way it would be easier for us as we hadn't been on this trip before as most of the others. As we drove through Austria we reached the mountain pass on the border to Italy. Here we got stuck in Traffic. It took an hour of snailing along till we reached snow. It actually came down as quite a blizzard. We saw many cars on the side of the road putting snow chains on the wheels. This definitely discouraged us, as we had none. We thought we might get stuck in snow and would have to get out in the cold and shove the car along the road. .
It turned out that we could manage fine. As we reached the top of the pass the roads were icy but our Dunlop winter tires did the trick. We got through onto the Italian side. Here there was no blizzard only a steaming hot sun. There were still snowdrifts lining the edge of the road. .
As we drove on we saw a car which had broken down, and could not get onto the side of the road as it was covered in snowdrifts. There were 4 or 5 people trying to push it up the hill. This must have been going on for a while as behind the car was a que for as far as we could see. We kept driving for around 10km in astonishment for how long this line of cars was. We then saw a red and yellow truck. It was the mechanics sent to fix the broken down car. At this we couldn't stop laughing as it would take light years for it to reach the top of the mountain.
