             " If you want anything old sport, just ask for it". There are many words that can describe the character traits of him, but Dependable seems to stick out the most. Jay Gatsby is faced with many challenges in his life and how he deals with them in the story shows a length of his maturity and patience with people are thrown at him. His world consists of the greater things in life, such as money, parties and all that glitters. One of the major themes in the story is that money cant buy true love.

             Jay Gatsby's self-presentation is very important in staying on top. You see this character as a good-looking sharp clean-cut man. " An hour later the door opened nervously and Gatsby in a white flannel suit, silver shirt and gold colored tie hurried in". Colors reoccur often like gold, white, green and silver. All these colors obviously make money stand out as something important in Gatsby's world. Jay Gatsby surrounds himself in light of his success with a white mansion in the west egg, surrounded by the greenest of green yards and flowers, stone drive ways for his guests to arrive on. Parties with laughter, dancing, music and people usually complete the package of a quite popular man. .

             Jay Gatsby has always wanted to be rich, his main motivation in gaining his fortune was his love for Daisy Buchanan. He met her as a young military officer in Louisville before leaving to fight in World War I in 1917. Jay Gatsby lied to her about his own background in order to convince her that he was good enough for her, which shows that he isn't as honest as he comes off to be. Daisy promised to wait for him when he left for the war, but while Gatsby was studying at Oxford after the war in an attempt to gain an education, daisy married tom Buckingham. Once that happened, Gatsby sees Daisy and soon dedicates himself to winning her back. Jay Gatsby didn't get his money honestly, he was in organized crime, by distributing illegal alcohol and trading in stolen goods.
