Music is a broad industry in the world today. Artists focus their career on many different styles such as jazz, rap, hip-hop, blues, reggae, rock, etc. Every person usually has a favorite artist, a favorite style of music, or just a favorite song. The industry is fast paced though and because of this, people like to be updated with the celebrities and news. That’s where Vibe comes in. This is a magazine that focuses their articles on fashion, media, lifestyles, sounds, celebrities, and businesses. One eye-catching feature of this music magazine is that it focuses on a multicultural audience. Through the magazine, articles ranged from “Alicia Keys Beneath the Surface,” “Biggies Untold Story,” and “Exposed Dancehall Queens.” All of these articles were based around diverse people. If you are not into the hip-hop, rap music or know the “lingo” of the urban culture, than you won’t understand the magazine. Vibe is not an average magazine giving detail on all types of music. Some articles that prove this are “Young Gunners,” which focuses on fresh new basketball stars and “The Ladies Man,” which is about Michael Ealy who is a vivid actor in Barbershop one and two. Another article in particular is “Bottoms Up!” This articles focal point is towards an adolescent, multiracial crowd. It shows how young adults are now interested in buttocks augmentation surgery. Even though breast implantation is still a high demand, the new butt implant is following right behind. The main point this article is saying is that to win over a man or receive their attention you deserve, you need to have a “sexy butt.” Many women are influenced by that and feel the need to change their appearance. This stereotype turns young womens heads because their bodies are youthful and they can make themselves look better. Because they’re at such a young age, if they were to enhance parts of their body, to them it would be worthwhile. Elder people don’t care about how their junk in the trunk looks; therefore, this issue mainly concerns women of a younger age. Not only are the articles viewed towards a generated stance, but also the advertisements. The models used are colored, young, vibrant people. Whether the ad is for shoes or for liquor, the layout of each picture shows off a clean new look. They all make you glance at least once over the picture to find out a little more of what it’s really about. Vibe consists of many ads, in fact probably too many. There are some generic ads that you would see in other magazines, but most are based around the multiracial urban culture.
